Open Position: Parish Administrator

Job Description

PRLC seeks a Parish Administrator to act as an operations manager who is committed to working alongside our staff and ministries to advance the congregation’s goals of providing worship and formation for all ages, striving for justice, and serving our neighbors. The Parish Administrator skillfully manages the scheduled tasks and the frequent interruptions, which can often require immediate attention. They work as a self-starter and participate with a spirit of collaboration and caring among our staff, volunteers, and members. This position would be best served by someone who can zero in on the details and yet also maintain a big picture outlook to anticipate opportunities for innovation. The Parish Administrator reports directly to the Lead Pastor and oversees the Administrative Assistant and the Property Custodian. 

Essential Duties

The Parish Administrator ensures that the work of operations and organizational maintenance runs smoothly to support the missional ministries and care of congregation and neighbors, including operational support of the PRLC Preschool. 

Your most important responsibilities will include:

Finance/Accounting Responsibilities 

●      Takes the lead in drafting the nearly $2 million annual budget with the Church Council and proactively, regularly, and transparently reports on the annual budget. The Parish Administrator manages the budget at a strategic and day-to-day operational level and is accountable for budget implementation at all levels of the organization.

●      Supports year-round stewardship efforts led by the pastors, Council, and congregational members. Support includes financial analytics, anticipating reporting needs, and organizing logistics.

●      Ensures that financial systems are as automated as possible and allow for real-time financial reporting.

●      Oversees the work with the bookkeeper and approves expenses and pays bills. Pays meticulous attention to detail. 

Human Resources

●      Manages benefits packages and proactively analyzes benefit options on a regular basis in line with budget considerations and the congregation’s goals

●      Initiates and manages the annual personnel evaluation process, and maintains personnel files

●      Coaches and supports staff when employment questions arise

●      Supports the work of the parish personnel committee

●      Leads the work necessary to automate payroll systems

Property Management

●      Anticipates and oversees short-term and long-term maintenance of buildings, IT equipment, vehicles, and grounds consistent with the property maintenance plan

●      Supervises the Property Custodian and ensures impeccable cleanliness and timely repairs of all congregational properties

●      Manage the congregation’s many short- and long-term contractual relationships such as space rentals for outside organizations, vendors, and housing

Desired Experience

The Parish Administrator will have demonstrated experience balancing regular ongoing tasks with emergent needs. The Parish Administrator has a proven track record of identifying needs or organizational areas of potential conflict and the ability to problem solve before a crisis occurs. The Parish Administrator thrives when learning new technologies and researching new methods/technologies for the most efficient use of resources to serve the congregation and staff. The Parish Administrator has a demonstrated commitment to anti-bias learning, justice, and equity especially with regards to hiring and human resources.

 Required Experience 

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related administrative, operations, and supervisory experience; OR, five (5) years of related administrative or operations experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved. Has excellent technology skills. 

Salary commensurate with education and experience, starting at $65,000 with a generous benefits package.
