Food Bank Thanksgiving Program is Happening!

The Food Bank Team has a plan for distributing food to our clients for Thanksgiving, with a few pandemic related changes. First off, we’ll switch to a weekend distribution on Sunday, November 22nd, to avoid any overlap with the Child Development Center. We still need volunteers helping on distribution day, as well as the day before to pack boxes, but we’ll be careful about scheduling these shifts. We’ll take volunteer groups of 4 people per shift who will work with Jo-Ann Cress as a leader. This way, we’ll stick to no more than 5 volunteers in the fellowship hall at one time. Family groups are encouraged to sign up together, but you don’t need to be part of a group of 4 to sign up! We do need you to sign up ahead of time, however, as this is the only way to safely organize volunteers. On Saturday 11/21, we’ll scheduled one group per hour starting at 8a, 9a, 10a, and 11a, and on Sunday 11/22, we’ll have one group per two hour shifts starting at 10a, 12p, 2p, and 4p as a clean-up/disinfecting team. Please email Jo-Ann Cress to sign up, or fill out the electronic Count Me In form available through church communications.

We’ll serve one client household at a time like we do in the normal food bank these days, and we’ll have distance and hygiene protocols in place to do our best to keep everyone safe. We’re not taking formal reservations this year, but we are collecting client names during the regular food bank hours between now and distribution, and assigning these clients a specific hour to come on distribution day. This is primarily to space out when clients show up to avoid large groups at one time, but it’s ok if a few clients come at a different time than assigned. Any family needing a box who does not regularly come to our food bank will be told to come between 3-4p. Unfortunately, we can’t take food donations of thanksgiving items like in past years, but we welcome your financial contributions which will be turned into delicious and sustaining food items for the boxes. Thank you for your continued support of the food bank, and for playing your part in keeping this essential service available to our community!
