February 2021: Lent

Lent 2021
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. You may access the video on your own or join the watch party at 6:00 p.m. We will be fasting from regular programming, but do encourage you to participate in one or both of the groups offered this year on Wednesdays. Vicar Sara will lead the prayer group at 10:00 a.m. on readings from John’s Gospel. Pastor Bryon will use these texts, as well, in a little different format on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. This will be followed by a brief Compline service at 8:00. Special offerings this Lent will go to world hunger and local hunger ministries. Devotions and daily prayer resources are provided for everyone, as well as special family activities during Lent. 

Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John – A retreat for Lent
Join Pastor Hansen for a journey through the Gospel of John on Wednesday evenings in Lent, beginning February 24th. When Jesus meets people in this Gospel, someone is usually changed. At the very least, people know that something unusual or provocative has occurred in their encounter with Jesus. We will be looking at these stories. They include Jesus’ meetings with Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman, the man born blind and more. As we ponder these stories, the primary question will be “how Jesus meets us?” We will meet on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Holy Communion
During the pandemic, we have resisted in person worship to promote and assure safe and healthy practices. Holy Communion is celebrated about once a month. In February, communion will be celebrated on the Transfiguration of our Lord (February 14) and again on the Fourth Sunday in Lent, March 14. We will continue to film worship with those present communing and others in the congregation coming to the worship space to receive consecrated bread and wine to bring to their homes. You are welcome to receive whenever you watch the videotaped worship or when you pray through the service with the Sunday bulletin.
