RainWise Project Celebration

Save the Date: March 3, 2019

Cisterns installed along the south wall of the church on N 75th Street

On Sunday, March 3 after the second service we will have a special event to celebrate the completion of the PRLC Stormwater Collection System. There will be a blessing of the rain garden, a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, tours of the new installations, and a gathering in the narthex with refreshments. Representatives for the City of Seattle “RainWise” program and our contractor RainDogDesigns will be present. The community is invited, and a permanent sign will encourage our neighbors to participate in the program as well.

Here is some background on the project:

With every storm, rain carries pollutants off roofs and other hard surfaces to local creeks, Lake Washington and Puget Sound. During big storms, the sheer volume can cause sewer overflows and erode hillsides and stream banks. Over the course of 2018 the PRLC Council and Congregation learned about a City of Seattle RainWise program, which promotes controlling stormwater run-off through collection, storage and infiltration. Members of the landscape team, under the lead of Scott Radford, worked with a qualified contractor on the design, and prepared the grounds and some of the pipes. With our roof area of 11,193ftthe church qualified for a rebate of over $44,000, enough to cover the cost of the entire project.

Join the celebration on Sunday, March 3, rain or shine! Dress for the weather.
