The Mary’s Place Rotating Shelter program has ended. The program has grown incredibly since its beginning — and with more overnight options for women and children, this model of shelter has become obsolete. With gratitude to everyone on the team, we end this incredible ministry. But as the saying goes, “when one door closes, another opens” so I’m also excited to announce new outreach opportunities are emerging at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church!
You got an introduction to Aurora Commons at Christmas, when we asked you to donate hats and gloves. It’s a “living room” community founded by Awake Church at 89th & Aurora, where they focus on the values of offering: a hospitable space; a place where strangers become friends, where societal norms are challenged and vulnerability is welcomed; accompanying & connecting, and opportunities to call out folks’ beauty, their gifts, and gently asks them to dream.
We are forming a Fourth Sunday Community Meal Team for Aurora Commons and invite you to join us. If you enjoy cooking and baking and serving hungry folks, we’d love to have your help. Our team (and a generous donation from the PRLC Outreach fund for Aurora Commons staffing) is enabling Aurora Commons to expand their service hours by one Sunday evening per month, and they’re very excited about that. Learn more about them at www.auroracommons.org
The details: Eight ‘fourth-Sundays’ in 2018 (5:30-7:00pm) we will provide a delicious Community Meal (buffet style for 50) in the Aurora Commons “living room” at 8914 Aurora Ave N (Greenwood Senior Center will provide the other 4 monthly meals). Here are the 2018 dates: Jan 28, Mar 25, April 22, June 24, July 22, Sept 23, Oct 28, Dec 23. Contact Signe Roscoe at firstname.lastname@example.org if interested.
There is also an existing Second Wednesday Aurora Commons ‘Women’s Night’ Meal Team seeking new volunteers. They prepare a meal on the second Wednesday of each month for 50 women. It is coordinated by Tiffany Megargee. So if you want to be on both teams, or a Wednesday night works better for you, or that group meets your needs better, please contact Tiffany at email@example.com.
God’s work–our hands.
