Islam is the world’s second-largest religion, and the fastest-growing major religion in the world, with over 1.7 billion followers. Our culture, however, is rife with prejudice and misunderstanding about the faith. Now more than ever, we must understand Islam if we are to know — and love — our neighbors.
In Adult Forum this month, please join Dr. Michael Chrzatowski for a six-week series titled “Understanding Islam.” This six-Sunday series will give you a sound and unbiased understanding of key elements of the religion of Islam, examining the similarities and contrasts between Islam and Christianity. Associated with the series will be a group visit to the Idriss Mosque in Northeast Seattle to observe an evening prayer and tour the mosque (date for mosque visit to be determined). Topics covered in this class will include:
1 / Nov 6: The Roots and Beginnings of Islam
2 / Nov 13: Structure and Content of the Qur’an
3 / Nov 20: The Practice of Islam
4 / Nov 27: Islam and the Issue of Violence
5 / Dec 4: Women in Islam
6 / Dec 18: How the Qur’an Describes the Birth of Jesus
Instructor Michael Chrzastowski has a PhD in geology and an MA in religion. Classes will take place at 10:00 on Sunday mornings in the Tree of Life Room.
