The word Gospel derives from on old English word meaning “Good News” as well as a translation of a Greek word from which we get our modern day term evangelism. The Gospel Choir was very busy these past few months moving out into the community and sharing the “Good News”!

In December, over 250 people gathered to listen to music of hope and healing and to get into the Christmas Spirit as well as raise over $2000 for Breast Cancer Treatment at out annual Christmas Concert. The Seattle Times listed our concert as “one to watch for in 2010!”

In January, the choir left the ridge to join with Temple De Hirsh and celebrate Shabbat on Capitol Hill in honor of the life and ministry of Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. We also welcomed 85 worshipers at PRLC for a Sunday Evening Prayer Concert and Celebration. The next week, we led Sunday Morning Worship at Metropolitan Community Church-Seattle. This small church on Capitol Hill with a ministry to predominately gay and lesbian Christians has been struggling to bring the good news to their community and invited us to help them dream what an active and vibrant music ministry could add to their church. The service enjoyed their largest attendance in recent memory.

Last week the choir sponsored 45 singers from 4 different choral organizations including the Peace Chorus and the Phinney Neighborhood Chorus in a day long retreat to learn to sing and move in the South African Style. The workshop leader, Val Rogers, then led the choir during Sunday Morning Worship.

Finally on 27 February at 3 p.m. the Gospel Choir will lead a concert at Edmonds Lutheran to Celebrate 5 years of growing ministry at their church and to raise money for the many needs that still exist in Haiti.
Exciting things are happening and the 50 members of the Phinney Ridge Gospel Choir always welcome new members. See our website at www.phinneyridgegospelchoir.org for more information.
